Why is everybody so obsessed with tiers

I’m confused as to why everybody is so obsessed with tiers. Like I get it. You want to get into a house that is socially active, but why do people need to argue about tiers constantly. They’re useless and all they do is create controversy and show an unhealthy lack of confidence. They whole point of Greek life is finding a group of brothers or sisters that you fit in with perfectly and love to be around. All tiers do is distract people from this and potentially lead them to make the wrong decision. Anybody who posts these rankings or tiers to make themselves feel validated are so sad. You should gain confidence by being happy with your situation and comfortable in your own skin, not by hiding behind some ranking that ‘prove’ you are cool. If the place for you is a popular house, good for you, but if it isn’t, then you should never feel lesser than someone who is (unless they’re in snu ofc).

Tips to anybody rushing next year-
Rush as many houses as you can to find the best fit and narrow it down. If you want to check Greek rank to see what other houses you will mix with, go for it, but don’t let the pissing contest get the best of you. Make sure the people in that house are people you want to surround yourself with for the rest of college. Don’t take it too seriously and be yourself at every event. Good luck.
