tips for winter rush

I am beginning to make some connections this semester for winter rush. I have 5-6 guys who I know will vouch for me so far at one house. Do I still need to make more connections before rush. Who is more important in deciding who gets a bid? Freshman pledge class, sophomores, ect..? Any tips, concerning pre winter rush and during actual winter rush?
