messed up fall rush
by: freshman
I didn't get a bid at the fraternity I wanted this fall and only ended up with a bid at a middle tier house that I didn't really like. I had a few questions about winter rush.
1. Should you re rush a frat?
2. How big is winter rush and how much harder is it to get a bid then as compared to the fall?
3. How do I make sure that I stand out during rush? It is so hard to have unique conversations with every brother during rush. At the fraternity I was hoping to get a bid from all of the brothers knew my name and had spoken to me multiple times. I think I went wrong by being a little too serious during my conversations with them and coming off as a stiff.
4. What are fraternities looking for in members?
5. How many fraternities should you rush, and how much time should you spend at them? There were so many conflicting rush events that I ended up only being able to really rush two frats, and wasn't able to explore all of the options available to me.
6. What are topics of conversation to discuss during rush? I tried to avoid talking about partying and drinking since I didn't want to sound like I was trying too hard
Any advice you have would be really appreciated!

1. no, when a frat tells you to come back in the winter, they are just being nice. they do not actually expect you to come back and do not plan on bidding someone they already said no to
2. it depends on the frat and the year. it is probably a little easier, but not if you have already rushed the house. in that case, it's much harder
3. brothers pretend they aren't lookin, but they creep everyones Facebook and find out for themselves all about everyone decent so you dont need to do anything to stand out, if you are cool theyll find you
4. cool kids who will be able to get girls to the house/athletic
5. I would find a backup that you are seriously interested in and maybe a few reaches
6. understand the college is short and goes by quickly, dont waste it thinking youd have so much more fun in a certain house. stay in the house you got a bid, the grass is always greener

1. You should re-rush a frat only if you got to know the brothers better over this semester and they seem to like you
2. Winter rush is much smaller than Fall rush but it's still pretty competitive as people are well-connected with the brothers by now. I know kids who got turned down by middle-tiers during fall rush and got bids from top-tiers in winter rush. There's still hope. Just make connections.
3. You need to convince the brothers you are a super chill guy who looks cool and can pull girls to the house. I'm not sure how much fraternities Facebook stalk but I do know sororities do it a lot.
4. Same as Above
5. I would do 2 you really like and a backup. It's better to spend a lot of time rushing a few frats than spending little time at many.
6. Talk about manly stuff like sports and what your interests are. The brothers want to get to know you well

maybe you're frat stalks facebooks. most houses aren't full of sorostitutes and just decide if they like a PNM based on face-to-face interaction
