why isn't homecoming a big deal at michigan?

ya seriously where are the floats and all that

it's cuz greek life here is like terrible and very distant from the rest of campus whereas at other schools its more integrated into campus life.

there is something to say about how disconnected greek life is bc greek week died, but imo homecoming isn't a thing bc of various other reasons. alumni come back all the time (we have so many of them) but it's mainly probs a combination of 1) we already have a lot going on. we tailgate at the same level as iowa, msu, osu, wisco, etc. and definitely better than the rest of the big 10. And we have rivalry games where that gets even bigger, plus stuff like winterfest and spring game where other schools do st pattys etc and not much else second semester. and 2) we're by far the toughest academically of all of those, the rest of the big 10 (minus NU) and def the SEC/BIG12. No one has time for a third or fourth huge game of the year, and no one has time to make floats out of tissue paper the week that gen chem/orgo/half the weeder intro classes throw their first exams at the freshmen/sophomores lol.

Homecoming and a home football game used to be the last Saturday in October, so everyone had plenty of time to work on it. I wonder why the University got rid of that tradition.
