is rush competitive?
by: frosh#1by: Yeah
There’s about 9 or 10 relevant fraternities. After that the guys aren’t as respected and don’t have as much of a reputation. Realistically, you will only have time to rush 3 or 4 houses. 4 is pushing it, 5 is just not possible. Do your best during welcome week to only spend time at relevant places. Don’t waste a night at beta when u could be somewhere else. Picking out those 3 houses to concentrate on is the hardest part of rush. It won’t be clear where u fit in the best during welcome week because everyone’s drunk and not themselves. That being said, use the open houses to really talk to people and get the feel for a house. After that, pick and choose which invite events u attend based on where u feel more comfortable.

A really good place to go during welcome week to go to as many frats as possible is the corner of hill st and oxford. You’ll find dchi, phi psi, lambda, pike, fiji, snu, dsig, and if u venture a little bit u can find chi phi, dtd, and pikapp not far away. But generally speaking the intersection of hill st and oxford has the greatest concentration of houses.
Also don’t mention Greek rank during rush lol. Everyone uses it but nobody admits it and it’s kind of frowned upon. I like giving info on rush cuz I also had no idea what I was doing during rush so if u have any more question drop them in this post and I’ll answer. I’ll try to be as unbiased as possible

it's competitive and also a bit of a crap shoot. i know guys who i rushed with who got bids at top houses and got cut after the first invite at mid-tier frats. i don't think greeklife at least among the top 10 in frats is as distinctly based on physical attractiveness as much as it is with the top 10 sororitys at michigan

It is competitive but not too bad if you know people and you’re normal. There’s about 10 relevant houses to rush (theta chi, phi psi, aepi, DKE, pike, Fiji, asig, Dchi, chi phi and theta xi) after that there maybe 3 more that are generally backup plans. It’s sad but a lot of it depends on religion, where you’re from and who you know at the end of the day. As they said above go places welcome week and meet a lot of people

If you want to get a bid at a top house go in knowing the odds are not in your favor. 400 kids rush aepi, phi psi, and ox, and only 20-35 kids get bids at each place. Do the math and you’ll see the percentage is far less than your chance of getting into michigan. Realistically, the top 5 or 6 houses all have low percentages, but the top three are certainly the most competitive.
