truth about ifc and aaifc
by: Truth
As a member of the University Greek community, this is the truth about the difference and the similarities between the school's IFC and The new AAIFC.
The only difference between the two groups is they made a different decision on what they thought was the best way to handle a new city ordinance and deferred recruitment which they all unanimously opposed. That's it, the only difference. Neither side was right or wrong because there was no right or wrong decision that was universally true for every fraternity.
The similarities between the two is everything else. Both groups value the safety of students. Both groups have risk management policies that are approved by the NIC. Both groups are run by students who have the best interest of Greek Life and the Ann Arbor community in mind. If you are a freshman and aren't sure what the truth is because there's a ton of people posting different things, I encourage you to rush fraternities from both groups. Make a decision for yourself on which fraternity you identify and fit in with best. Rushing is no commitment it's just about meeting people. Go to open houses on both sides, and you'll be able to tell for yourself instead of relying on biased opinions on both sides because no matter what people say on this site nobody is unbiased. Everybody has an adgenda. I'm biased, I hope you all rush my fraternity, but it's up to all of you to make your own decision just like how it has always been.

By 2019, the competitive fraternities will be those who join the AAIFC because UM is forcing the IFC to carry out its policies such as the ban on freshman rushing in the fall semester starting in 2019. The AAIFC is allowing freshman to rush because that's what the students and alums believe is best for Greek Life. This is a huge difference between the two groups. The IFC is mandated by the UM administration to carry out its unilaterally decided policies regardless of what members of Greek Life think. How can anyone argue that the ban on freshman rush was what the members of Greek Life wanted?

This post is right, neither the fraternities in the IFC nor the ones in the AAIFC are bad, freshman should rush both. The AAIFC fraternity forum is Wednesday night and the IFC fraternity forum is Thursday night. Both organizations are having fraternity open houses. The info for the AAIFC is at www.aaifc.net and the info for the school’s IFC is at the school’s webpage

Why is it such a bad thing if freshman wait until January to rush? Don't lots of colleges do that.
