dumb question...why do so many students have cars?

My parents are wondering if they should keep my car to use after fresh year and I have no idea if I'll need it. Pretty sure all my classes will be on central campus and I plan to live close by years 2-4.
Obvi a car is great to get home 1-2 a semester. But like on a daily/weekly basis what are students using a car for? Are all the undergrads with cars driving to class? I feel like parking is so chaotic here that any time saved would be lost finding a spot and then walking to and from spot - but maybe I'm wrong.
