Enterting freshman question...I have friends in a DU chapter at another Big Ten school and they are going to be a DRY house in the next semester. Is that happening for the Michigan chapter too?

DU will be “dry” 2020-2021 year, however, many frats already have a “dry” policy in effect. Technically speaking it’s just a move for nationals to have less liability and lower insurance. DU, as many frats do, will still be throwing party’s. Whether you want to deal with the complications of this (cleaning house for nationals mostly) is your choice

If you don't want to be in a dry fraternity I would stay clear of rushing DU. All the BS that Sig Ep had to deal with from their Nationals that resulted them in merging with DU will inevitably happen to DU sometime in your college career if you rush next year. Sadly most greek organizations will start adopting this dry policy in the next decade, but you are better off rushing a fraternity that does not already have this impending status of being dry already put into motion.

good input obvious geed. literally half of the houses on campus are "dry" already but only nationals, not the university, enforce it so everyone on campus is fine.

Sig ep had some different situations with their nationals... Phi delt was supposed to be dry but obviously weren't, they were fine with their nationals until they got caught hazing. It just really depends on how hard their regional guys wanna crack down

UM and Alumni IFC are planning to make all chapter houses free of alcohol by August 2019. Insurance and legal liability driving changes. No way to merge out of this reality.

So if ALL Chapter houses are doing dry in a year, then we're all in the same bucket so to speak.

Exactly. UM has realized that no fraternity on campus can succeed at being "dry" if most are not. UM plans to use official recognition of fraternities as student organizations a new way of strong enforcement. Lose recognition and you lose your chapter house zoning with Ann Arbor. Game over.
