fraternity rush

As a guy, how do you choose which houses to rush? The only reason I'm on Greek Rank is because my sister told me that it's impossible to rush every fraternity and get to know each one, so you have to go on GR to try and get a feel for the fraternities so that you know which ones to focus on during rush. Is this true? How long is rush period for guys?
