SigEp has long believed that our Fraternity must provide a sense of home and belonging that flows from the alignment of our environments and our organizational values. In this critical and defining moment within the Greek movement, it is essential that we do everything within our power to promote the safety of our members and guests and the health of our chapter cultures. SigEp also believes that try brotherly love is fostered through shared social experiences that facilitate trust and deep, probing, and meaningful relationships. Our industry award-winning Residential Learning Communities™ shape our bondage with our fellow brothers.

I wonder if taking alcohol out of the houses will work like prohibition and push students to riskier behaviors in other locations?

Most of them quit. But only after they were kicked out.

Sounds like a chapter who thinks it is too smart, too cool, too whatever, for the rest of SigEp. That they are special and that its the rest of us brothers just don't understand. Maybe someday, if we see fit, we can return to Tappan and house a chapter with brothers who truly believe in our cardinal principles above all else. The U of Michigan is a great school. One where SigEp would really like to succeed. But we need to succeed on our terms. Where SigEp is at its best, it is a life-changing organization for its members based upon a culture centered around our cardinal principles. It is not just a place where people go to party for four years.

In all honesty, if an alcohol ban was the sole reason a potential new member didn't want to join SigEp they likely wouldn't be a good fit for SigEp. Alcohol has become a central focus of fraternity life and we want to demonstrate clearly that SigEp's priorities lie with preparing young college men to become confident, values based leaders.
