rushing as junior

by: Girlie

Thoughts on rushing as a junior transfer student??? I start in the fall and wanted to know if I have a chance at receiving a bid. Also did any sororities take juniors in the last year?

To be completely honest, it's really unlikely you'll get a bid. However, it's possible. I know a few people, only one or two though, who rushed as juniors and got a bid. The problem lies mostly in that you'll only be around for two years and national orgs as well as local chapters don't love that. Also consider for yourself you'll be in a pledge class of mostly freshmen, and the current juniors won't be around nearly as much so it would be hard to make friends with them. Unless it's your dream to be in a sorority, I'd say join clubs instead. But if you want to put in the time (think all of September) and the money then why not?

Any competent and qualified student may go thru recruitment. Sorority is for life, not simply 1-2-3-or 4 college years. An interested junior will not be overlooked if she brings needed vitality to our homes. It only takes ONE bid to get that pledge pin and continued good conduct to become a lifelong initiated sister.

There's definitely still a chance! OP just asked for honesty and that's the honest truth, it is harder for juniors to get bids than freshmen.

The only way you can be certain you won't get a bid is by not rushing! I know a girl who breezed through recruitment as a "second semester sophomore" aka junior, all her credits didn't transfer and she got her first choice. The biggest mistake transfer juniors make is dropping out of rush imo.

Honestly, depends on the house and what you have going for you. A lot of times it is a turn off because you won't bring in as much money as a freshman or sophomore, but there are definitely houses where they'll look at you and be like "this girl is really cool, it would be awesome to have her around." So just go in with a solid attitude and with optimism and see how it goes! If it doesn't work out, there are plenty of other organizations to join on campus.
