aopi shutting down?

by: yell

Has anyone heard that AOPi Michigan is shutting down? I heard from a friend at another school (who is president of panhel) that they heard various rumors that AOPi national isn't happy with all the negative press from Michigan AOPi and that they were pulling the charter. Has anyone heard anything about this? We need all the houses we have and I can't believe this could happen.

Doubtful that a panhel president at another school know anything about the chapters at Michigan.

There are some PanHel Presidents that do keep in contact with each other and share information. I am on a PanHel council at my school in the Northeast and we just heard the Tri Delta at Indiana University just got shut down this past weekend. So word does travel through the Greek Grapevine.

She heard that there are retention issues at AOPi Michigan and that the chapter isn't thriving. Not sure if this is true or not? But I would be concerned.

That comment just went from a thumbs up and 0 thumbs down to 24 thumbs down within minutes. Please stop trying to make a sorority look bad with fake thumbs down/up. This is clearly made up. Anyone actually in AOII spells it as "AOII" and not "AOPi". This person is clearly pretending to be in "AOPi" and acting like they care because they are in another sorority and feel threatened. STOP.

Abbreviations vary depending on school...Kappa/KKG/TriDelt/TDelta/DG/DeltaG/PiPhi/PBP etc. etc. etc. So, let's not focus on abbreviations please and stay on point. The original post was seeking opinions on the present state of some of the newer houses on campus. To the person that said I was threatened by the success of the newer houses I would like to say that this is an unfair assumption and totally misses the mark (I am in a highly rated house and was previously on panhel). We all need these houses to succeed to make our panhel strong. However, if these houses aren't making it then something needs to happen sooner rather than later as we cannot afford any weak links as they drag us all down. We have had a rough period and continue to be under a great deal of scrutiny based on the past few years. If a house isn't retaining members and has difficulty recruiting then this is a signal that things aren't heading in the right direction and something needs to change. So, if the rumors are correct and people at other schools are hearing about what is going on here then we should all be concerned....

An International sorority does not invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in a new chapter to only shut it down months later. AOII is doing as well as any brand new chapter can do. Give them time, they will grow. Let's all give them our support as a new chapter. We were the ones who voted for extension to bring on a new group. It is great that the Michigan Greek system is growing. Each chapter has different things to offer and makes Greek life more attainable for all who wish to join. My sisters and I are all rooting for AOII to succeed. Their success is good for the system here.

This aopi chapter is too new for these types of rumors. Some people posting here apparently aren't happy their group was not chosen to colonize.

If nationals plans on shutting it down, I bet they'll wait until after fall rush next year.

they lost a ton of girls after colonization due to the high cost, that's painfully clear. their cost is too high and its nationals fault for that, not this chapter. other chapters on campus get much more help from their nationals (ex GPhi got a house built from the ground up for way less than what aoii is paying) I was in aoii and girls loved it/each other but the dues are more than 3000 a year which is obscene compared to other chapters on campus, it will be hard for them to get girls to rush/join the colony with dues being this high (they are set this high for next year as well)

I feel like dues are way way higher than that when you start living in the house... if that's what it's set at for live-ins, it's a bargain

typical dues at umich can be half that, none are more than 2000 max. the living expenses are separate for live ins. gphi did not have dues even close to aoii when they started so this cost is not standard for colonies

If you look at the reps of NPC members GPhi has a reputation that is second to none! Class act all the way and they have been fantastic to work with here at UM. Based on the rumors I hear though I don't think our AOII sisters can say the same about their national. Most people blame panhel and not the AOII sisters as the sisters didn't know what they were getting into by affiliating with such an organization. I feel sorry for them, truly do.

Next year dues for aoii got lowered. Also girls that live in won't have to pay the expensive housing fee. For girls living in next year, it's actually a pretty good bargain.

Unless you were within the realm of those making their decisions to leave the colony, it would behoove you to not speculate on their reasons for their decisions. And unless you enjoy a seat at the executive board table for the AOPi NPC sorority it would only be right for you to refrain from guessing their financial intentions toward AOPis Michigan chapter. Have the panhellenic decency to allow our newest chapter to grow and prosper without your gloom-and-doom hypotheses.

not discussing anything people don't already know, sorority finances are published online its not a sensitive state secret--that is, every chapters dues are published online on the umich panhel website except aopi!

The sorority financials online are from the recruitment several weeks before Aopi came to campus and colonized. AOPi's costs will be included in Fall 2017's online financials because they then will be recruiting as an installed chapter. Duh.

Did panhel know about the dues amount before approving them to come to campus? It seems like alot of the panhel decision making was done on the fly and not well thought out. Why approve any NPC that is going to have significantly higher dues than other organizations? Makes no sense. There are other NPC's out there that would have gladly colonized. Not sure why AOII was approved at all...maybe the people on panhel were paid off or given trips? Seems like something fishy is going on...

Seems like this timing of lowering the dues is just a bit too 'convenient'???? AOII national has serious character issues as evidenced in past behavior and treatment of sisters. Their typical tactic is to squeeze all the money out of a chapter that they can through every fee and charge IMAGINABLE! So, the Michigan dues situation was probably just another one of their soak the rich scams. I hope if the dues are still too high that people deactivate as that is the only message these scamsters understand. Props to the people that did leave the house. My view is that if AOII national didnt have the financial strength to support the start up of the house at Michigan they should have passed and Michigan should have had another NPC organization that was willing to INVEST in our panhel. Zero evidence of the AOII national stepping up and investing ANYTHING here at Michigan. I hope this house has strong leadership that can speak up to the scam artists in TN. Just saying...

They open like 6 chapters per year. Not all succeed, but that's not national's fault.

Sounds like they got a large Spring class and were able to spread-out some of the costs for next year due to the additional members.
