crime?

Hi, I'm going to be transferring to Michigan. I was wondering if crime around campus was a major problem. Is it safe to walk around at night or are there lots of muggings and scary people?

I'm coming from an East Coast urban college where campus was safe, but the surrounding blocks were like a war zone, so I wanted to know what to expect (hopefully not the same!!)

Realistically this was an issue that bothered me a bit and is perfectly reasonable. Most of the crime is seen on the outskirts of campus so just walk with a friend when you go to frat parties and stuff. Ubering is big here too so you should be good with that. During the day there are really minimal risks.
