#342 by: Greek at Tulane
"you are no better than anyone...because you went greek. You're all for bigotry, just with half the junk. That system is for the south, by the south, of the south. Think about it -- the height of your adolescent intellect...and you still think anyone who's not white and rich is a freak. You don't? Then what did you go greek for? Tons of intelligent and tolerant people all around you just waiting to open your mind wherever you're from. You went greek just like these kids. And they only have the reputation of bigotry. At your school they say "yeah, anyone's welcome, just as long as you abandon who you are". That's a form of racism that cuts ALL people. At least racism only targets specific minorities. "

Welcome PNMs to the most competitive recruitment anywhere, bar none. No PNM is assured a bid, and forget that 2.5 GPA, it better be a least a 3.0 or you won't make it to Slideshow parties. Mutual Selection? It's only mutual if you are on that Chapter's list. And most chapters have enough legacies going through each Fall to fill two new member classes. All the PNMs have spectacular resumes, there are NO average girls here. Want your legacy chapter or a certain set of letters? Go somewhere else. If you're already coming to Tulane, go where your heart leads you, nothing else will work.

Yes, recruitment is competitive. No, legacies aren't assured a bid. ALL of PC'12 was above average; EVERY house was selective. The frats are into every house and don't diss any of them, no matter what you read here. And this may cause screams from coast to coast, Pi Phis aren't all supper models and Phi Mu got some beautiful girls.

Interesting fact, freak. But I think the point of that post was that Tulane's rush and greek system is as of a Southern schools. Tulane prides that its only 40% Greek and not "overbearing"but IT IS OVERBEARING. When 92% of Freshman rush...Thats an overbearing number. The only factor is that there aren't enough bids- even from low tier frats- to give to 92% of freshman girls. Greek life is HUGE at Tulane, even though Tulane tries to make it seem like it isn't. Rush is competitive- Freshman girls, be careful first semester because things you do and people you meet MATTERS. Just as it is at Ole Miss or Alabama, GREEK LIFE IS WHAT THE SCHOOL IS CENTERED BY

I agree. If youre a PNM and considering rushing or being a gdi, some highly regarded advice is to go through rush. Rush sucks. But do it because all of my GDI friends regret it to no expresasble degree. You will be closed off to go to exclusive parties second semester and your social life will evaporate

I know it isn't for everyone. Comparing Tulane to UA or Ole Miss is absurd- TU is Southern Ivy. Those are state u's where there are twice or more houses and Greek is dominant. Vandy, UV, SMU are better comparisons to Tulane, and Rice which has no Greek system at all. Telling 1st years they will have no social life if they don't pledge is wrong. New Orleans is a party!! And the University provides activities, too. All the fall frat parties are open to everyone. The great thing about spring recruitment is girls get an opportunity to meet actives first semester and get some idea of what each house stands for. The majority of Greeks have both friends in other houses and gdi friends. Get involved your first semester and go into rush with an open mind. No house here is a ticket to acceptance or makes you an outcast. See for yourself if this is right for you.

That is so not true and deifnitely written by a GDI. I'm in a sorority and have 1 GDI friend who is miserable and rushing next semester. If you like going out, partying, being social and meeting friends...You will rush. Tulanes rush is just as competitive as Bama and Ole Miss because greek life is most of Tulane. Like another comment said, all parties are closed Spring Semester which means that you cannot go into bars, clubs, and frat houses unless you are in a frat or sorority that is invited. Telling PNM's that they will have friends who are GDI's is basically false because like another comment said 92% of girls this year rushed, showing everyone would want to be in a sorority if it wasn't so competitive. The comment below was definitely of a GDI or SDT. Disregard.
