Srat Recruitment: Prior Connections?
by: Fritzin’Literally no one from my town attends TU, so although I have loads of new Freshman friends , I don’t know anyone in a sorority yet. Honesty please: do I have a chance at the top 5?

First off breathe baby girl. The whole friend group thing is true, but it’s not the srats that pick friend groups. It mostly happens because friend groups all try to end up in one srat mostly based on that srat’s popularity. Those same friend groups are the ones that form cliques inside their new house and eventually they drop after traveling abroad their junior year. Every confident girl wants to at least be in the Big 4, and honestly the truth is that every pnm wants to go Kappa or Pi Phi. Those houses combined only take around 70 PNM’s each. Try to see each group beyond stereotypes and where you feel a connect. Every house, at Tulane (compared to other universities) is strong.

Although prior connections could potentially help bc then you could have someone in that sorority advocating for you, it really doesn’t go past that. I had no connections in top 5 and had 4/5 of them for sisterhood. It’s all about your conversations in the rounds and who you connect with so don’t worry! Sounds cliche but seriously just be friendly, positive, and engaging and you’ll be good
