money
by: FreshI’m a freshman girl and I’m planning on rushing this spring. I’m here on a pretty big scholarship and I’m paying my own dues. Will the fact that I’m not rich hurt my chances of getting into a sorority?

It won;t hurt your chances of getting into one, but it may affect your standing.
I'll give an example. I worked a LOT in college to pay my own dues, but because of that I would often miss required events, which some sororities fine you for. So I'd end up spending more money because I was trying to make money. Then I would be having to make more money and missing even more events. Eventually, I got my schedule down to a system where it wasn't a problem anymore, but it can be hard with jobs where you don't always get to choose your schedule.
My advice would be to rush, join a sorority if you want and see how it goes and how they handle their dues/fines etc. If it becomes a concern, you could talk to the new member director about options etc.
