friend groups
by: pmnWhen you rush and get a bid from a sorority once you're in do your friend groups mostly change? Like the people you are friends with bc they live in your dorm or are in your classes do they become mostly irrelevant unless they have been some of your closest friends fall semester? And do girls friend groups cross between houses at all?

Some of the best advice that I can give a freshman going through recruitment is to really focus on yourself throughout the process. Don't worry too much about which houses your friends from first semester are going to, or dropping. This process is so unique and you will be surprised how well the system works if you don't just do things because of your friends. And if it happens that all your friends like the same house great! But don't be afraid to join a house just because your friends may not. Of course you are going to meet new people, and make new friends but your friends from first semester are still going to be your friends and definitely won't become irrelevant. The amazing thing about Tulane greek life is that your sorority doesn't define your friend group. Majority of friend groups have people from multiple sororities, and of course there are so many opportunities to make a new friend group in your new sorority if you want to!
At the end of the day go into recruitment open minded and everything will work out! Good luck!!

And as far as whether or not friend groups cross houses, yes, that does happen - but there's usually a binding agent to make that happen. My sophomore year, my friend group had most sororities represented because we all lived in the same suite in Phelps. Now, my friend group still has a lot of different greek organizations in it, and I think a lot of that is due to the fact that my closest guy friends are all in the same fraternity.
