Eh, it's a crapshoot that goes both ways. Sometimes there will be a freshman that one girl knows from class or clubs and really likes, but even then, assuming she has good conversations during recruitment with the other girls that rush her, we don't know where else she's going to wind up at on pref and if she wants a bid from our house. Then there will be girls who nobody knew before rush that make fantastic impressions and wind up getting bids.

That all being said, I think it's much better going into rush not knowing anyone, than it is to go into with a bad reputation. If you only have 100 instagram followers but you seem like a great fit during rush, we'll happily take you over a girl that has a massive insta following but had to be carried out of the boot three times during syllabus week.

Yes, some houses know of girls to "look out for" during rush. This doesn't guarantee them a bid, just that someone in the house may know them and think they would be a good fit. But what really, really matters is the impression you make during the rounds. Not knowing anyone or not being "on a list" will not in any way work against you, and like the other poster said, may work in your favor.
