rushing a sorority as a sophomore transfer?

by: plshelp

I'm thinking of transferring to Tulane (not official yet but I am pretty confident) next fall and I was wondering if it'd be hard to get into a good sorority if I'm a sophomore transfer. Also, do you need to be in greek life to have fun/make friends or is greek life not a huge thing? Thanks so much! :)

Kappa, chi o, pi phi usually don't take that many sophomores. This year they were cutting everyone, even legacies. The ones they do take usually have connections.

Doesn't mean don't rush though! It all depends on the girls you talk to during recruitment.

I'd say each sorority takes like 2 sophomores

Is that because very few sophomores rush or they just get looked over? I'm also thinking of transferring and would probably want to go greek, is it super competitive for upperclassmen?

Yes, it can be competitive for sophomores. A lot of houses want freshmen who will be paying dues for 7 semesters. But I know in my house, we don't really take that into consideration. What we do take into consideration is if you're a sophomore and have gone through rush before, but this isn't always a bad thing.
Don't be discouraged at all, many houses are willing to take sophomores as long as you make a good impression like any other girl going through it.
