continous open bidding
by: curiousCan someone explain to me what continuous open bidding is and how it works?

Taken from an earlier thread:
as to how it works: say sorority XYZ has 2 open spots because 2 girls in spring '16 dropped. that sorority will officially enter a period of "continuous open bidding" until 2 new girls accept those 2 open spots. the sorority will reach out to girls that they think are good fits, who may have dropped recruitment entirely or not rushed at all because of other circumstances. they WILL NOT extend bids to a woman who received a bid but dropped because she did not like the sorority she got on bid day. this is because that woman who dropped after receiving a bid signed a document after preference round saying that she understands that upon preffing the sororities she did, she is agreeing to not rush for a year after no matter what happens. hope this cleared things up a little.
There is also the chance that once total is recalculated this semester, groups may be under the newly calculated total (calculated at the beginning of each semester based on chapter median), leaving a few open spots outside of quota to fill. This is less likely than filling spots in quota, but it is still a possibility.
Sororties will reach out to you. If no sorority contacts you, I'm sorry, but you didn't make the cut this year. Try to join some other clubs, raise your GPA, and make friends with people in Greek life for next year.\n\n\n\n\n

Some other points to note about COB:
SEVERAL organizations are participating in the continuous open bidding process this semester - fantastic options! This is a rare occurrence, so take advantage of it! :)
COB will not start until after Sigma Kappa takes their first pledge class. REMEMBER: if you pref sigma kappa you ARE NOT eligible for a COB from any other organization.
As a COB girl, you will be the SAME as girls who recieved their bids on bid night. You'll be part of the spring 16 pledge class, have a big/little week and big/little reveal, take part in initiation and other lovely ritual ceremonies, and be showered with the same love and attention as your pledge sisters.
It is still unclear as to what is happening with AEPhi. As of now, they are NOT allowed to extend/promise bids or have anything to do with recruiting new women in any way.
