No. It's much easier to rush in the fall as a sophomore because the process isn't nearly as structured. That being said, not every sorority holds rush in the fall so if you know there is a sorority you're interested in and they're not taking anyone, you'll definitely miss out and have to wait until the spring and rush with the freshman. I have a number of friends who rushed in the spring of their sophomore year and joined sororities that they loved. It's only awkward and uncomfortable if you make it so.
