pike

I'm interested in PIKE and like a lot of the guys. However I have heard some bad things about them that I have never seen. I am worried about seeing their true colors after rush. What is the general opinion?

I'm not a Pike and am in another fraternity but let me say that they're a great group of guys. They are easily the most stereotypical fraternity at AU but that does not necessarily make them bad. They're involved, have good sorority relations, and are genuinely good guys. Are there some black sheep? Sure. It's like that everywhere. People generally crap on Pike because they place such a big role on campus. That being said, I do know that they aren't planning on taking a massive pledge class so I would encourage you to rush multiple fraternities to hedge your bets.

From a sorority stand point, you really either love Pike or you hate them. They're definitely the most stereotypical "frat" so if you're someone that would've rushed at a State School then join, but if typical Greek Life doesn't seem like you're thing then I would check some other groups out. The younger guys seem really great but like with any organization you're going to run into some "black sheep" as the other commenter put it. Keep an open mind through Rush!

I wouldn't worry about what you hear in the grapevine. Definitely attend their rush events, it's a good way to get to know the guys outside of a party scene and find out what they as an organization are all about, and if you vibe with them!

If you think they could be a good fit, you should definitely go see what they're about. Only you can decide if a fraternity is right for you. It doesn't make sense to lie to guys about what is important to a chapter because it will only cause problems later on. That logic goes for every chapter on campus.
