the "everything" rundown of sorority recruitment
by: Recruitment
The rundown:
You are put into subgroups of around 10-15 girls, and put a big group made of 3 sub groups, totaling around 30ish girls. These are organized alphabetically by last name and are lead by members of the 8 represented sororities on campus who chose to temporarily “disaffiliate” from their chapter during recruitment to give rushees an unbiased experience. They will guide you to your locations and answer any questions you have! They rock and are SO helpful.
The days:
Day 1- With your big group group, you will visit, and be REQUIRED to visit all 8 sororities. You will also visit the new sorority coming to campus this spring, Sigma Kappa. In each of your visits to all 8 sororities, you will talk to sisters in that organization, watch skits, hear songs, things of that type, to learn about that organization. Every organization at AU is vastly different, and day 1 really meant to give the vibe that that sorority has. Because Sigma Kappa is just starting at AU and has no members, Alumnae of SK chapters will be giving an info session and will only be visited by all girls on day 1. They will offer bids after the recruitment process is done. At the end of day 1, you rank your preference of the sororities, and likewise, the sororities will rank you. It is a mutual selection process.

Day 2- You will be called back to up to 5 sororities. Some girls are called back to 3, some all 5, and few girls might get called back to none (but that is VERY VERY rare!!). Depending on how you ranked your sororities and how they ranked you back, you may not be called back to your top choices, but may be called back to sororities you ranked lower as they liked you! Like the first day, you are still required to visit all sororities you are called back to. This is a great chance to get to know sororities better! Day two is focused on philanthropy and getting to make more personal connections to the girls in the sorority. You talk to sisters, watch a recruitment video, and hear about the organizations philanthropy. At the end of day 2, you rank your top 3 choices.
Day 3, Pref Round- You are called back to up to 2 sororities through the mutual selection process again. A lot of girls (especially last year) were only called back to one. While there is a lot of stipulation on the one, I have not heard of anyone getting only one visit and NOT getting a bid from that organization. If you are called back to a sorority on this day, called Pref Day, that means the sorority WANTS you in their chapter, so if they are offering you a chance to visit on the third day, they know there is a possibility of extending you a bid to their chapter! Pref Day is sacred, and each sorority has their own ritual that they do during this round. It is very personal, emotional, and moving.

Bid Night (Day 3)- After Pref Day, you rank your decisions again (if you were called back to two) and the sororities will rank you. Later that night, you get your bid! If you went to any sorority’s pref, there is a 99.99999% you will get a bid from the one(s) that asked you back, so don’t sweat it! Based on how you ranked and how the sororities ranked you, you get your bid! Some girls that get called back to 2 sororities on Pref Day don’t get a bid from the sorority they ranked first. This is because their first choice sorority, while liked them enough to consider offering them a bid, either ranked other girls highly, or ran out of bids to offer, therefore those girls are offered a bid from their “second choice”. DO NOT FRET THOUGH. I know a lot of girls to who this happened to, and they are all SO incredibly happy at where they ended up, they laugh at how they could have ranked another sorority higher. TRUST THE SYSTEM.
You get your bid envelope, rip that bad boy open, and run to your new home. It is awesome.

Cuts: Cuts are really difficult to nail, as is really dependent of what each sorority is looking for. Since every sorority is different and looks for different things every year, cuts aren’t quite predictable. For the most part, cuts can be made whenever, and it is likely that you will be cut by one sorority just based on whether or not you vibe with them. It’s not to say that they hate you!! It is just to say that you would click better somewhere else! While all sororities are great, Delta Gamma is notorious for cutting a majority of girls who rush on the first day because of their HIGH GPA standards. AEPhi also does a majority of cuts on the first day as they have a specific type of girl they want to appeal to. Sigma Delta Tau rarely makes cuts as they are looking to expand their chapter, as their numbers have been pretty low in recent years, and because AXiD is new and needs to grow, they won’t cut much either. Phi Mu and PSS make an equal amount of cuts each round, Chi O is very unpredictable with the number of cuts they make and when each year, AXO does a majority of cuts after the second day. It just depends.

Final Note: A lot of girls will choose to drop out of recruitment if they don’t get called back to their “favorite”. I just ask of everyone that goes through to keep an open mind, continue with it anyway! You might make a new favorite during recruitment and question how your old “favorite” sorority could have ever been your favorite in the first place (I did!!). Everyone that is in a sorority wouldn’t change the organization they belong to for the world. Trust the system and good luck!

I was totally fine with your rundown until this... not every sorority is allowed to make cuts after round 1. If PNMS don't rank them well, they may not be allowed to cut girls, or they can only cut a few. I have no idea where you're getting your information about each of the sororities, because it's not accurate at all. AEPhi is never able to cut a large group right after round 1...
