A membership review is a process by which a group of alumni interview the current brothers and attempt to identify those who have the desire to be a part of a chapter that would aspire to the ideals of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Those that don't wish to go through the process or are rejected are free to immediately join a fraternity that might be more appropriate to the experience that they seek. SigEp HQ wants nothing more than to avoid a membership review – in the end it is an action of last resort, taken only when all other efforts to guide the chapter in improving its operations over several years had failed.

A membership review is pretty much a death sentence. Nationals will do interviews and pressure brothers into becoming snitches. Nationals will eventually cut 2/3 of the guys. The remaining 1/3 will have to decide if they're cool with canceling their brothers. Those that do will then have to follow SigEp rules to the letter - no drinking, no pledging, full time tracking with the Balanced Man app on their phones...

Sounds like Sig Ep was considered a pretty solid house here, but it also sounds like they’re 100% in trouble and also going dry. Are they even gonna be around or would rushing them be like jumping on a sinking ship?

Best case scenario for SigEp is they go through a membership review, miss out on rush and have to live with a lot more nationals/school oversight. Worst case scenario their charter is gone and they’re done here. Not looking good for them

They're not getting membership reviewed, it would have happened already if it were going to happen

The vast majority of students coming here do not want to join Greek life. In other words, harmful stereotypes about fraternities as drinking clubs harm recruitment. At SigEp, our substance-free fraternity is a differentiating factor and is a huge competitive advantage. Our substance-free fraternity provides a support system for doing what students actually want from their college experience.

At least Nationals is doing something with recalcitrant chapters. Actions have consequences; you can’t put your own interpretation on rules and think you’ll get off the hook. SigEp put their social priorities above all else and this is the price the whole chapter paid.
