i'm a legacy for azd so i am only going through their recruitment in the spring. and i like the idea of not joining a sisterhood that already has a stereotype

I think I might. A friend of mine who really isn't the "sorority girl type" joined their colony at UMD and has nothing but great things to say about it and her new sisters. I've been talking to her a lot about it and she wants me to go through formal to get to know the other chapters too, but it seems kind of overwhelming

i want to rush them, but only them. does anyone know if we still have to sign up for formal recruitment? they said they would be participating in round one, then dropping out, but I don't really want to pay just to attend one round.

You have to participate in the first round of rush then you can continue to the second round or drop and choose AZD. Anyone interested in AZD can't go to round 3 of the rush process.

They are taking around 50-60. The goal is to create a full chapter with this first rush class. They are looking for all grades as well.

They're capping at 100

the chance they will actually take 100 is slim to none. they will take who they want to take, even if it means only 40 girls

No one knows exactly how many they will take, but when sororities colonize, they aim to take whatever chapter total is, plus usually a pledge class.

I will be rushing. I didn't rush last year so I could be a part of AZD. I have friends throughout the country that are sisters and they have nothing but amazing things to say about it.

Except no you didn't, because it wasn't decided that AZD would come to campus until much after formal recruitment had ended.

Ladies, please keep in mind the following things as you prepare for whichever form of recruitment you decide upon in the spring.

1) Going through formal recruitment is the best way of getting to know ALL of the chapters and REALLY find where you belong--just because you have heard good things from sisters in other chapters around the country doesn't mean that the AXiD chapter at AU will resemble theirs in any way, shape, or form.

2) The number of women AXiD chooses to extend bids to in the spring (which is not 50-60) does not increase your likelihood of receiving a bid. AXiD is more concerned about the quality of women they recruit than the number.

3) You cannot say sorority recruitment is fake if you have never experienced it. Greek stereotypes are the reason the community continues to have a questionable reputation, and if you are a potential new member who is propagating that idea, you're only making the problem worse and hurting the community you're trying to be a part of, even if joining AXiD.

4) If you are a prospective new member planning on going through recruitment you CAN and SHOULD go through the third round of recruitment. Your sigma rho chi will explain how the process ACTUALLY works on the night of orientation.

My best advice is to just GIVE THE PROCESS A SHOT. If the chapters that are participating in formal recruitment aren't exactly a great fit then PLEASE try AXiD, but keep an open mind about ALL chapters, and go in with the right intentions.

Just putting in my 2 cents... Went through the formal recruitment process last year and was not really impressed. A lot of people say to "trust the process" which after going through it, i deffinitly dont. Although u do get to know a lot about the different sororities and meet new people which was great, "speed dating" with sorority sisters for 10 minutes does NOT let you REALLY get to know people. also, when trying to drop out, my rho chis made it very difficult and pressured me A LOT into going through pref round.. after telling them "I know this is not the right fit for me" about 10 times, they were STILL pressuring me into it. I did not appreciate that at all, it made a lot of girls uncomfortable and did not make anyone feel better.

I also went through formal recruitment last spring as a freshman and did not love the process.. I do not plan on going through it again this coming spring. I really would love to rush alpha xi delta, but my real question is do i have to go through formal recruitment and drop out, or can i only sign up for azd's recruitment?

i'm pretty excited to rush axid. as a sophomore i know all of the sororities and have absolutely no interest in being part of any of them. i think new beginnings will be really great on this campus. and i'm sure they will be mid tier even if they're new
