gphib
by: Soph pnmWould joining gamma phi beta be a bad decision? Would it just be better to try and join a sorority that already has people in it? Also, do I have to go through recruitment if I want to join gamma phi beta?
#1by: Well
Gamma phi will not have a house for quite some time, they will not have relations for a little while and have to be extra careful because nationals will be watching them very closely, they can't participate in Greek Week this semester, they won't have the traditional big-little setup, and founding a chapter and being new on campus is just very difficult in general. It really depends on what you want in your Greek experience. You do not have to go through formal recruitment to join them, though they will have a party during House and Values.

That being said. If you really connect with the people you talk to, go with it. The rest of recruitment for gphib will be after formal recruitment I believe so, you have an opportunity to check them out if you don't find anything that you're really into during recruitment.
Colonizing a chapter will be hard and your experience will be different than other people but I know a few girls who have colonized chapters at other schools and loved it. You get the opportunity to create your own chapter traditions and define what your chapter will be about.

AXID came back on campus in 2012. Spent 1.6 million to renovate the house. They own the house, it is not campus property, like the row or the graham cracker. Gamma Phi Beta has a strong national organization. Given the misbehavior of the row frat houses, they should have a temporary house soon. While starting a new sorority at UMD can be daunting, specially with the nasty posts on Greek Rank, there is a thrill and awesome pride in being the founding members of a chapter.

They will do greek week this semester, and they do twins for big/little- you are just paired with another girl in the first class and start the family from there. I'd suggest doing it if you are interested!
