rush advice
by: Wise Senior
With rush around the corner I figured I would give some advice looking back on my years.
1. Rush has already started - If you aren't already in contact with the fraternities you are interested in you are behind the 8 ball. Most relevant frats will already have a good idea of their pledge class before rush week even starts. Keep this in mind.
2. Rankings - while some on this site are accurate, most are garbage. 95% of these rankings are done by middle tier frats looking to bump themselves up a level or two. The top tiers know they're top tier and the bottom tiers know they're bottom tiers, they don't care about these rankings. Its literally all middle tier frats arguing with each other, so take that into consideration when looking at them.
3. Rush week - You can tell the good frats apart from the bad ones by how many open rush events they have during official rush week. Good frats will only have 1 or 2 open events for everybody to come to since they already have a good idea of who they want. The worse frats will have 4-5. If its the day before you have to sign bids and your still going to "Pizza at the House with the Brothers!", chances are that frat sucks and you probably aren't getting a bid anyway.
4. Dirty Rushing - Nearly ever frat at this school dirty rushes with nighttime alcohol events... if you aren't getting invited to these within the week before rush week and the beginning of rush week itself, the frat probably isn't interested in you.

These are basically correct. A few comments just to add. With rankings that's essentially right but only if you consider "middle" frats to be basically everyone below Fiji and above sae which are the vast bulk of relevant greeklife and all self rank on these sites. Second the open day events are essentially required. The open events that point should refer to are night events. If you're still getting invited to night events and benign told to bring people then that frat is probably not that great.
