Is anybody else having this experience?
by: wuts gudI just want to know if I'm the only one having this experience or if anybody has some advice. I was a COB in the fall and I'm also a transfer student so I thought joining a sorority would be a great way to meet people. There were 4 other girls in my "PC" but most of them dropped. I'm in a "mid-tier" srat and I've tried reaching out to other girls my age in the sorority, but none of them seem particularly interested in getting to know me or being my friend. I like the girls, don't get me wrong. They've all been very nice to me, but on a small talk level. I don't want to bash the girls in my chapter because they really all are good people (the ones I've met at least) but I feel so out of the loop with chapter meetings, events, and other things that are going on while we're in the virtual world. I'm a junior right now and I don't want to disaffiliate mostly because it looks good on a resume and I want to stick it out until things go back to normal and it could be a totally different story. But I don't know what to do. I feel very alone, especially since I'm a transfer student and don't really know that many people at UMD to begin with. I thought that as my sorority sisters, they would at least get me somewhat acclimated to greek life or try and at least get to know me or invite me out, but that just hasn't been my experience and it's really sad and hard for me. Please keep in mind, I am not trying to bash any of the girls in my chapter and I have no ill feelings towards them. I understand it's hard coming in later once everyone has already established their friend groups. Believe me, I get that. It just wasn't what I was hoping for it to be. Don't ask what srat I'm in, I won't say because I don't think the girls deserve any backlash for this. The girls I've met are great people, they just haven't put in the effort to get to know me like I have. Am I selfish for this? What should I do/is anybody else having this experience?

That's totally valid. I am so sorry this is what's happening and you are going through this. If I were you, I would stick it out until school reopens, because then you'll have chapter meetings in person, socials, registers, and other fun sisterhood events. It's so hard in the virtual world because it's so impersonal. On the other side of things, it's hard for the other girls to reach out when they are consumed with their own lives and already have their friends, but you did say you understood that. Wait until things are in person because I guarantee things will be different. If they aren't different, then disaffiliate. Instead, join other clubs! You could always join an academic frat, join clubs that are around your interests, join clubs related to your major (which will help with your resume concerns), and attend events on campus. One thing a lot of sorority girls are involved with is PSA. I've met a lot of girls in PSA who are as passionate about the topic as I am, share the same interests, and its a very fun and empowering thing for me. If i disaffiliated from my chapter, I wouldn't feel as burned out because I'm involved in things other than greek life. I wish you the best and feel free to respond with other questions:)
