sorority rush
by: PNM!!!Hi guys !! I’m super excited to rush this spring! But I’m a little nervous because I am African american , although I did grow up in an all white community. & skin color does not matter at all to me! Anyways, I wanted to know if anyone has any insight to diversity within UMDs sorority. Like do you think due to skin color you’ll end up at a lower rank sorority . Please help !!! Thanks <3

Rank the houses in order of how you felt during your time there not based off of these stupid rankings. If PNMs are only concerned about these rankings, then they are rushing for the wrong reasons. I would suggest to go with your gut feeling and get a genuine feel from the girls you speak to. I know sororities on this campus that are inclusive and have great sisterhoods. Be yourself and find your future sisters!

Honestly speaking from experience, I am not african american but from a “minority” country and I just went where I felt the most genuine connections that didn’t make me feel like i’d ever have to hide or show less of my culture. If you can find those kinds of people, that’s where you’ll have a great time, and honestly sometimes just listening to what the girls personalities and what they care about most are like, it helps you figure out even more where you fit in than your skin color does!

Just be 100% honest with how you rank houses and don't look to these garbage "rankings" on this website for advice. I'm in an inclusive sorority and I know a few others that would be more than happy to have you with us!! Look for the houses that make you feel at home, and for girls that really care about their sorority and philanthropy. I know I had a gut feeling about the best house for me by the end of recruitment, and I hope you feel the same. Best of luck to you!

all I will say is my friend did go to a sorority during rush which is usually put in the top tier category and she is a minority, Indian to be specific and she asked during recruitment what their diversity is like in their chapter and they girls response was oh, our diversity and inclusion chair is half black.
go somewhere where you see the diversity the chapter has and not everyone who looks exactly the same.

Do not worry about your race!! There are many chapters that are super diverse, and if you get dropped from a chapter it will be for many different reasons, and definitely not because you’re black. Just be yourself, go with your gut, and definitely stay off this site once recruitment starts :)
