rankings
by: QuestionWhat's the point of all of these Sororority/Frat rankings? They don't change and it's all perception. Can we all just agree to disagree...

Honestly, greek rankings at UMD are just an extension of high school popularity. Its analogous: "higher" frats social with "higher" sororities and "lower" frats social with "lower" sororitys, just like cool kids hung out together and nerdy kids hung together back in high school. It doesn't really mean much. At UMD, the parties are pretty much the same (even with better satellites) and the greek life experience is similar no matter where you join. I would say that generally, higher tier frats/sororitys have more attractive members.
So by posting rankings, greek orgs are trying to improve their tier so they can social with better, more attractive individuals. Nothing more.
Where it actually can make a difference is down south and on the west coast, where top-tier fraternities are MUCH better than their lower tier counterparts. USC and UF top houses have super extravagant parties that lower tier just can't match.

I wouldn't consider the "top tier" frat guys at UMD considerably more attractive than any of the other frats. They really aren't anything to write home about.
