texas state pledge dies....

by:

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Texas State University has suspended all fraternity and sorority chapter activities following the death of a fraternity pledge after an initiation ritual.

In a statement Tuesday, university officials say a male pledge was found unresponsive Monday morning at an off-campus apartment. The 20-year-old sophomore from Humble, Texas, had attended a party that Phi Kappa Psi fraternity members hosted Sunday night at the apartment.

An autopsy has been ordered. Police in San Marcos, Texas, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) south of Austin, say they suspect alcohol played a role in the death.

The Montana State University fraternity suspended last week after two reports this semester of a student being hospitalized for alcohol poisoning received a cease and desist order from the fraternity’s national office.

The letter, dated Nov. 15, orders the MSU chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon to stop all operations and fraternity-related activities, including social functions, philanthropic events and anything to do with recruitment.

KINGWOOD, Texas (KXAN) — Friends and family said goodbye Saturday to the Texas State University student who was found dead after a fraternity event.

The student was laid to rest in Kingwood, Texas, near his hometown of Humble northeast of Houston.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, the San Marcos Police Department, the university and the fraternity’s national chapter are all investigating his death.

Phi Kappa Psi shut down the local chapter at Texas State University last week for what they say are unrelated reasons.

Police said it is still possible that charges could be filed in this case.

It appears that a fifth university has joined the ranks of Frats on suspension.....
It is comforting to know that fraternities are coming to terms with irresponsible behavior.
Maybe we should just have sororities.....?

Don't kill your pledges. It's not that hard.
