too many frats?

by:

I feel like this school has too many fraternities and not enough guys interested in Greek Life which leads to frats to have to do mid semester rush (SAE and such) wouldn't it be better if IFC just got rid of some chapters so there weren't so many weaker Fraternities with barely enough members?

What chapters would you want to get rid of?

Any established frat that's been around for a while that is still struggling with numbers should go. Newer frats like ADPhi that have less kids would get a pass

I could tell you a lot of chapters that should be gone then. Also half of the orgs that have houses on the row shouldn't :/

The natural development of attrition should render this problem moot. As the scum rises to the top and are kicked off campus and no new frats are added we should be down to 20 in no time. (Say, 2 frats a year. The row would be filled and the frats off the row, like ATO, PHI Delt, Theta Chi, etc. could concentrate on house improvements) We should be at 16 sororitys and 20 frats. Quality before quantity.

That would work in a realistic society, but in order for that to work, the university itself would need to support and finalize that process. IFC cannot make that decision, especially when the NIC itself supports open expansion on college campuses. And fraternities that have a very long history at UMD that get kicked off, the University is usually all in favor for them to return within a 4 or 5 year period, because they (University) do not want to piss off alumni, especially if they are die hard donors to the school or are very involved in the UMD Alumni Association. Remember, you do not want to cut the hand the feeds you. The process that is mentioned should really should a apply to newer fraternities that never had a chapter on campus. Just keep it to the ones that have a large Alumni base at UMD.

Fraternities that are on UMD property are in jeopardy. UMD is methodically cleaning out the Frat Greek system. Then they invite off campus frats to on campus housing. Those frats with their own houses have lasted longer, except for KA.
