winter rush?

If I didn't rush fall quarter, but I still want to join a sorority is it better to rush winter quarter of my freshman year or to just wait until fall quarter of next year? I would like to join Greek life sooner rather than later, but I've heard that you're more looked down upon if you don't do the formal rush process during fall.
