do you need a suit in a frat?

I'm rushing this fall, and I'm wondering if I'll need like a full-on suit for certain events, or if a blazer and slacks will suffice. I'm a bit worried because basically all my money is going to be going towards dues so idk if I could afford a $300 suit.

Is it true that I'll need a suit or blazer for fraternity meetings, dinners, singing(?) and other weekly activities? This may be based on some old school information someone fed to me.
