should i rush as a freshman or sophomore?

by:

I'm attending UCLA next fall but I'm worried that I'll be really distracted next year because of ongoing family issues. I really want to be in a sorority but part of me wants to wait until my second year when stuff has cooled down at home. How much harder is it for second years to get bids? Is there a lot of stigma towards non freshman rushing? Would my chances of getting into a good house be higher if I rushed as a freshman or sophomore?

i rushed as a sophomore, it's ok, but you don't get as close as all the freshmen do.

are you glad you rushed then? do sophomores integrate better in some houses rather than others?

It would probably be best to rush a sorority freshman year if you know you want to do it at some point

I'm probably going to have to go home a lot to visit a sick family member. I just feel like I won't be able to satisfy obligations of being in a house while I am doing that.
I guess I'm asking... how detrimental would it be if I waited to rush? Would I not get any bids?

just rush as a freshmen and if you don't like it, you can quit. Even though you won't be at all the events, it's okay. If you rush as a sophomore, you get lower priority and there's a (little bit) of a higher chance that you will feel more distanced from the house bc of your pledge class

you will be ok if you rush as a sophomore. houses have a quota to fill with upperclassman that is like 1/3 ish of their total PC. thus they are forced to give bids to older girls.
