Competitiveness vs. Rankings

by: Rho Gamma

hot take, i feel like srat rankings (at least at ucla) don’t really mean anything since there’s so many frats and so few sororities, so they’ll all kind of mix with the same frats. what there is though is competitiveness, like how some sororities are more competitive to get into than others, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the less competitive ones are “bad” or “bottom.” all sororities still have a full social calendar, with events every week. maybe rankings make more sense at a school like bama but here i don’t think that they matter that much. (for example, last year alpha phi and sae had a pinning [“top” sorority] but also so did gphi [“lower mid” sorority]). if gphi was really all that bad, then the top frat wouldn’t bother doing events with them. IMO, gphi (and other sororities like them) is just less competitive to get into than alpha phi, which i think is a more contemporary way of looking at the houses.
