houses
by: bruinIt kind of sucks that at UCLA you're basically revered if you're in a top house, or dismissed if you're not in a top house. There really shouldn't be so much obsession over reputation. In choosing a house, go for the one you feel the most comfortable at and has the most girls/guys you can live with. You don't want to feel like you're constantly putting on a show for a group of people you have to deal with for your entire college experience.

Not even close to accurate. Greek life is not huge at UCLA -- 90% of the kids in Greek life will admit that. This is an academic school. Were #8 in the WORLD. We are nothing compared to southern schools, where you need to be in Greek life to have a real social life. People in higher ranked houses still intermix, and I'm pretty sure ANYONE can get into a fraternity party without issues. We don't turn down girls because they're GDIs or in one house over another. Rush here is so relaxed, as is anything "hazing" related.
And obviously you go for houses you feel comfortable with. Your post is making no sense. People don't pay dues to be in a house they hate. If you do, you should probably reconsider your mindset. Like I said, it's UCLA.
Oh and I can almost guarantee people in "top" houses automatically have a worse reputation than lower houses here just off the bat. People think they're unmotivated and rude.
Sorry OP.

Definitely not. I'm saying hazing here is a lot less intense than southern fraternities, that's all.
