the "top" tier fraternities give me the creeps
by: honestlyNow that I have been at UCLA for about six months, and have gone to parties at almost all the fraternities, I have to say that a few of the "top" houses are actually weird and sort of creepy in a hard to explain way. I find SAE to just be cultish. They always let me in to their parties, and I get enough attention there, but I just get weirded out by them. I'm wondering if any other women feel this way. Thoughts?

If you are looking to join a "top tier" sorority, then you probably will have to hang with those guys - that is the simple truth. If you want to have a little more independence, I suggest going mid or low tier. I decided not to go with the "high" house, not because I was a "reject" - actually I didn't get dropped by any house. But I really wanted to be in a place where I could be me, and not feel like I had to hang with the guys you are talking about. Believe me, you aren't alone in this feeling. Just avoid them. Most self respecting women do.

if they have spring rush, there will be a feast outside their house that could accommodate jabba the huts family. Its their version of "dirty rush", it attracts the members. Unsuspecting GDI's be wary, there will be blood =S

Yes, i also know what you are saying. I have been at parties at almost all the fraternities and am creeped out by some of those guys. They just don't know how to talk to girls. Don't get turned off completely though My experiences have been really good at SigEp though. There are a lot of nice guys there that like to dance and are respectable. I'd also recommend Lamda if you are looking for guy friends. They have been pretty friendly to me when I occasionally go there.

I like Lambda Chi parties and haven't tried SigEp, so maybe I will try. I'm just creeped out by SAE and ZBT. They are sort of like male versions of Stepford Wives. Sorry, but they really are himbos. I don't want to join a sorority and have to hang with them.

Exactly. This is one of the reasons I don't want to join a sorority. I feel like it would be a lot of pressure to date guys in fraternities I'm not comfortable with. Since I'm writing anonymously I can say that I'm fairly attractive (I get a lot attention from guys like SAEs) but I honestly don't gel with them at all. I want to join next year, my sophomore year. But I just don't know if I will fit in. What if I don't want to go to fraternity parties? What if I date a guy who isn't in a fraternity? How does that work?

Try going to sig ep and lambda chi parties like that other girl said. They have hot guys who can have fun but are also very nice and genuine and are fun to hang with.

I like the guys at Sig Ep and Lamnda Chi, but I wouldn't date any of them. Nothing against them. I just like a more edge (almost punk rock) type of guy. Would I fit into a sorority?

I feel the same way. I think that a sorority would be something I would like, but I don't like the affiliations with some of the fraternities. I'm not sure if I will rush next year. I'm worried about this too.
