nervous for rush
by: newbruinnew freshman here, first in my family to go to college let alone consider greek life. i am thinkomg abt rushing fraternities this fall and was wondering what to expect from the digital recruitment. how much of fraternity recruitment it’s based off of race/looks/follower count? how hard is it to actually get into the “top” houses? does it rly matter how your fraternity is “ranked”? thank you for any answers+ advice!

To some extent sure those things matter, but the biggest thing is that you're not socially awkward. Top houses for frats just means they tend to have events with top sororities. Other than that, they aren't better, just different. It's not like being in a top house will give you any extraordinary benefits.
Honestly it's probably very variable in terms of selectiveness. The pandemic isn't very Greek Life friendly. Some houses might be trying to wait it out, while others might take the approach of being more open to maintain numbers.
Think about what makes you a person of value, think about what type of experiences you want in college, try to get an idea of the general makeup of different houses that you feel you could fit well with, and then rush those houses.
