how much of sorority recruitment is based on looks?

by: TooForeign

Hi, incoming student possibly interested in Greek life.

This is probably a really dumb question. I am not American, and we don't have anything like this in my home country. I'm not trying to bash anyone, just wondering.

When people refer to "who won rush", and "who cried when they got their bid list", does that just mean which sorority got the most/least attractive girls...? That seems odd for a sisterhood.

What standard of beauty do they use? Is it a classic skinny, white, blonde look? Is it actual physical beauty like body and face, or is it based on having the right style, hair, attitude, etc?

I know the standard response is "if the house doesn't want you, you don't want them". I'm just curious how this "hotness" is measured, and how much it can make or break you, especially in the "top" houses.

Everyone else seems to intuitively know the answer, haha, sorry for the dumb question.

The unfortunate truth is that houses are judged based on having the most skinny and attractive girls. Race matters a bit but not as much as you think. It’s more of the body and face that matters
