living in a frat house but not in the frat

Hey I was wondering how this works. A frat was leasing some rooms for housing for students but apparently the students don't have to be in the frat to live in the house? Is that a common thing?

It's very common. Almost all frats lease out rooms for the summer. It's pretty common for girls to lease rooms in frat houses.
