rushing as a transfer

by:

As a transfer PNM, do they drop you immediately if you're not drop dead gorgeous? Or is there a shot at a top house?

As a transfer you definitely have a shot at a top house. Looks obviously do matter but being drop dead gorgeous isn't really necessary if you have a cool personality that houses could see themselves vibing with

Statistically you don't actually.
People think cause they know one girl who rushed as a transfer and got a top house that that's how it will be for everyone. The reality is that person is an outlier, the exception to the rule, and statistically the upperclassmen have less of a chance at top houses than the freshman

Just go through rush and feel it out! Definitely don't let being a transfer stop you from rushing, if anything I think it makes it even more crucial to rush because it can really be an awesome way to meet people! It can make your time at ucla so amazing so don't be discouraged by being a little older or being a transfer

The truth is if you aren't a solid 9 top houses will not look at you. Sorority girls are instructed to get as many of you to enroll in rush because the money Panhellenic receives from registration but every year the statistics show 85 percent of upperclassmen rushees are either dropped or they chose to self drop out of recruitment! Don't be fooled save your 80 dollars and join another club on campus. Clubs are the best way to get involved and meet people and make really good friends with similar interests.
Last year out of all registered rushees (1,100+) only about 600 got into a house in the end.
Panhell wants even basic girls who have no chance to sign up so they get your registration money. 500 girls dropped. At 80 bucks a pop, they basically handed over 40,000 dollars to Panhellenic. It's a business in the end be careful before you sign up ask yourself and be honest if you're one of those sorority types
I'm just tired of people getting taken advantage of every year and seeing girls crying because they got dropped to all the houses or they only got called back to the bottom houses it's sad most of these girls don't have a chance but they're convinced to go through with it

Realest post. Thanks for the honesty, and it's true nearly half the girls get cut or drop. And it's worse for upperclassmen "older" girls

This deserves a bump I wish I had known this before rushing last year. I ended up getting cut quickly after round 1 for being a sophomore.
Luckily I waited for COB and joined a house in winter quarter NOT through formal rush.
If you're a sophomore or above it's easier to join a house through COB or winter/spring rush with participating houses
Formal recruitment will be a waste of time and MONEY unless you're super hot and rich and have fmany GOOD friends in the top houses

My roomate told me sorority girls are encouraged to get as many people to sign up for recruitment (so Panhellenic can get the recruitment fees) so they hype them up and tell them to "at least give it a try" you'll find your home blah blah blah
And then once rush starts they have no problem cutting all these girls in round 1

All of you stfu. None of this is true ^ I rushed as a junior transfer without knowing ANYONE in top houses or any houses for that matter, I am most definitely not rich, and I'm not a model/drop dead gorgeous soooo it's possible. It doesn't cost a lot of money to sign up for rush so it's better to try and see if it works for you then to spend your 2/3 years at ucla missing out on being about of Greek life.

Are you In kappa tho? Probably not

Junior transfers and upperclassmen usually will get bottom houses 9 times out of 10 or no house at all

My house is in the core four So I know for a fact my house a top house will not take a transfer unless she's a legacy AND hot/cute and social.
I won't say which house but I wouldn't waste my time I would imagine most have similar policies

That didn't even make sense but okay. Moral of the story. If you're a junior transfer: rush! I don't know why there are so many "girls" on here trying to persuade upperclassmen away from rush. Idk if they're just bitter because they're horrible personalities and inability to communicate kept them away from good houses but what they're saying is irrelevant. If you're attractive, fun, have an awesome personality that girls in each house could see themselves hanging out with, and you seem like you're down to have a good time then you will be 100% fine during rush.

It's a waste of time! Sorority girls will tell you to rush because the more people who are signed up for rush the bigger the quota number set by Panhellenic will be. However they fill the pledge class up with mostly freshman girls, even as a sophomore you're at a major disadvantage.
They tell you "just try it" knowing they'll likeley cut you but it means they can take a bigger pledge class! Wake up people !!!!

by: Huh?

This makes absolutely NO sense. All you are out is your reg fee if you drop. I'd say take a chance & see if you find a fit. If you do, you have a home for life, friends for life, memories for life. If not, you lose that fee. That's reality. Why make someone feel so insecure about the process? Not everyone is that fragile.

Or just dont waste your time. Honestly unless you're a legacy or have GOOD friends in a house it's not likely you'll have a pleasurable rush experience.
I hate to see girls cry and be upset after being cut from most of the "top" houses early on. It sucks, it's not you ladies it's the system Upperclassmen simply aren't desirable

Legit not true at all; every top house middle house and bottom house has a transfer quota to fill, I know transfers in every house, which includes the top 4. It's only a week of your life, if it doesn't work out at least you're not left wondering what could have happened. I really would encourage you rush and do pledge if you like the house that offers you a bid

By: Go for it!
by: Ll

Are you dumb? Yes Panhellenic sets an upperclassmen quota but it's up t each house if they want to fill it. Top houses will not fill it if there aren't enough upperclass girls who meet their criteria. And most don't

Actually not all houses can choose not to fill it. Some houses have a mandatory requirement from their nationals that they have to meet 100% of Panhellenics minimum quotas. Others may have a smaller percentage or no rule at all, but not every house has a choice to not fill it
