rushing as a transfer
by: Becky
As a transfer PNM, do they drop you immediately if you're not drop dead gorgeous? Or is there a shot at a top house?
Xoxo

Just go through rush and feel it out! Definitely don't let being a transfer stop you from rushing, if anything I think it makes it even more crucial to rush because it can really be an awesome way to meet people! It can make your time at ucla so amazing so don't be discouraged by being a little older or being a transfer

The truth is if you aren't a solid 9 top houses will not look at you. Sorority girls are instructed to get as many of you to enroll in rush because the money Panhellenic receives from registration but every year the statistics show 85 percent of upperclassmen rushees are either dropped or they chose to self drop out of recruitment! Don't be fooled save your 80 dollars and join another club on campus. Clubs are the best way to get involved and meet people and make really good friends with similar interests.
Last year out of all registered rushees (1,100+) only about 600 got into a house in the end.
Panhell wants even basic girls who have no chance to sign up so they get your registration money. 500 girls dropped. At 80 bucks a pop, they basically handed over 40,000 dollars to Panhellenic. It's a business in the end be careful before you sign up ask yourself and be honest if you're one of those sorority types
I'm just tired of people getting taken advantage of every year and seeing girls crying because they got dropped to all the houses or they only got called back to the bottom houses it's sad most of these girls don't have a chance but they're convinced to go through with it

All of you stfu. None of this is true ^ I rushed as a junior transfer without knowing ANYONE in top houses or any houses for that matter, I am most definitely not rich, and I'm not a model/drop dead gorgeous soooo it's possible. It doesn't cost a lot of money to sign up for rush so it's better to try and see if it works for you then to spend your 2/3 years at ucla missing out on being about of Greek life.

It's a waste of time! Sorority girls will tell you to rush because the more people who are signed up for rush the bigger the quota number set by Panhellenic will be. However they fill the pledge class up with mostly freshman girls, even as a sophomore you're at a major disadvantage.
They tell you "just try it" knowing they'll likeley cut you but it means they can take a bigger pledge class! Wake up people !!!!
#8by: How
Or just dont waste your time. Honestly unless you're a legacy or have GOOD friends in a house it's not likely you'll have a pleasurable rush experience.
I hate to see girls cry and be upset after being cut from most of the "top" houses early on. It sucks, it's not you ladies it's the system Upperclassmen simply aren't desirable
#9by: Go for it!
Legit not true at all; every top house middle house and bottom house has a transfer quota to fill, I know transfers in every house, which includes the top 4. It's only a week of your life, if it doesn't work out at least you're not left wondering what could have happened. I really would encourage you rush and do pledge if you like the house that offers you a bid

Statistically you don't actually.
People think cause they know one girl who rushed as a transfer and got a top house that that's how it will be for everyone. The reality is that person is an outlier, the exception to the rule, and statistically the upperclassmen have less of a chance at top houses than the freshman
