so you wanna join a sorority?

Here are things everyone should know about Greek life at CSUF.

1. The biggest thing you’re paying for is a social status. To be able to say you’re a part of axo, gphi, whatever. a couple mixers, a formal dance, and some sisterhood events, and OF COURSE ur kinda paying for your guaranteed experience of frat parties.

2. You’re gonna have mean girls anywhere you go. Any sorority you run home to is gonna have them. So don’t think that any one sorority is perfect.

3. Every girl is probably overwhelmed in the beginning and has thought about dropping at one point. Although Greek life is a great way to stay busy and make friends, it can be super overwhelming and it’s not for everyone!

4. Go into recruitment open minded! Seriously this is so important! It’s so easy to go into it close minded with your mind set on one house. I did this too and honestly sometimes I think “what if I had joined ____” What you see on Instagram is most likely NOT what you get behind closed doors. All the girls are supposed to make themselves look cute on social media, it’s what they do to pull you in. When you go into recruitment just see who you felt most comfortable talking to and the values you align with.

5. It’s EXPENSIVE. This is pretty straight forward but most sororities are like at least $1,000 a semester. Keep that in mind when you think about which sorority you want to join and ask yourself if it’s worth all your money. When you put it realistically, you’ll be paying at least $8,000 to be in a sorority if you’re in it for all four years.

6. “You get what you put in” is a fact! Seriously you’re paying all this money to be in Greek life, make the most of it. Go to as many events as you can and really invest yourself if you wanna have the best experience possible. Take a leadership position. Anything you can to get involved, do it, you’ll feel more included. If you DONT get involved then you’re literally wasting your money and you’ll probably feel like You don’t have a good relationship with the girls or you’ll feel less included.
