tips and advice

Hi! I went to the CSUF welcome event and met some of the girls. They were all very nice! I know that everyone says keep an open mind (which I am), but I feel like I have already made more of a connection to one house. I know that it was only a brief glimpse and that there is more to learn about each house. I was just wondering if all the houses have different criteria's in what they are looking for in a future recruit or are they all pretty basic and if so what are they?
Also, I was told that we can only bid on 1 house... is that true? I have friends in other university's that got to bid on 3.
And what are other tips during RUSH week?

Each house has academic requirements, look for involvements and the ability to stay financially current with dues, etc. Some rate more on looks too, so if that's important to you then look your best every day and wear designer stuff. But most just look for promising women who will fit in with the chapter well.
Recruitment is 3 days: Day 1 you go to all sororities and rate all 6. Day 2 you go to up to 4 houses and rate them. Day 3 you go to up to 2 preference ceremonies. After day 3 you can get a bid from one chapter and choose to accept or wait till the next year.
Tips:
- Don't suicide rate (as in, just rate everyone and go to all the ones you get invited back to even if you may not initially think you'll like them.)
- Literally have an open mind. You've met like what.. 5 girls from chapters maybe? There's over 100 in most chapters. Don't judge the sororities from a handful of girls.
- Wear comfortable clothes and if the weather is hot make sure you're not going to overheat.
- Don't listen to what other Potential New Members say about houses. You're not them, you might belong in a different house than them so make up your mind for yourself.
- Write down notes about chapters in between parties, it's hard to keep track of them all on Day 1.
- If you get bid-promised, it's not a for sure thing (and chapters aren't supposed to do that), the rating process is complicated so just because a few members say you're in, doesn't mean it'll happen for sure.
Lastly, Just have fun, look for chapters that share what you're passionate about!

^ the person above pretty much told you everything but I'll give you some personal advice:
- GO IN WITH AN OPEN MIND. I went in wanting one house so bad because of what I saw on social media and found out I didn't really like them once I met them and ended up choosing a house I didn't think I wanted. I'm so happy with my decision and know I would have regretted it if I didn't keep an open mind.
- CHOOSE FOR YOURSELF. You'll meet lots of friends during recruitment and it may be hard to choose a house because you might want something that your friends don't... so when you rank on preference night my best advice is for you all to fill out your paper without talking about it because you may be influenced by your friends and regret your decision
- bring a small backpack or bag (target, forever 21, etc have cheap cute ones) and bring snacks and WATER. don't worry about a bag not going with your outfit, no house will judge you for being prepared. seriously bring water. you will need it.
- Have a good time with it. Houses can tell when you're not being genuine so put your best foot forward but have a great time. This isn't a professional interview so don't treat it like one!! Just let the conversations flow and you'll be fine
- Find houses that are interested in what you're passionate about! You're joining for the organization, so make sure you choose a house that does things you like.
- Ask any questions you have! The girls are here to help and give you information. Do not feel like you can't ask questions.
- After you meet each house, write down notes in your phone. By day 3 you'll have a hard time remembering who you talked to and what you talked about. The notes are critical!
Recruitment is the best weekend and you get what you make of it! Have lots of fun and feel free to reach out to girls if you have any questions!
