can I add onto this by asking if you need rec letters, how many for each house? Like a safe #?

Good grades, looks and personality are definitely the top 3 attributes they're looking for but if you have good recs it just makes you that much more memorable before the girls even meet you.
I wouldn't say you'll necessarily get cut for not having a rec, but if the sorority really wants you they are sometimes required you have one so they'll get an alum to write you one and it's just a pain. So honestly I suggest just putting in the effort to get them done, even if they're from people you don't really know, don't stress!
As far as number of recs, it doesn't help or hurt to send in more than one. Stick with only one!

Some sororities will cut you if you don't have a rec. Some don't care. If I were you I'd get at least one for each sorority. Anymore than one is just extra and not necessary.

I'm in what is considered a top house, and before rush I had been told I would be cut from this house if I didn't have a Rec letter. The Panhellenic in my area said to get one rec and 2 letters of support per chapter. Recs help, so get them if you can. I do know a girl that got into a top house without anything though

I don't think it's a total deal killer but it definitely sets you apart from other girls who are equally as pretty, smart, outgoing, etc. I would worry more about getting recs for Pi Phi, Tri Delt, Kappa, Theta & zeta.

i was told to go to the national website and see if i can get recs from there? is it that possible if i don't know any alumnae from that chapter?

i dont go to tech, but i know for a fact several sororities that are large nationally have policies that require a rec to get a bid, and they can't always get one for you, no matter how much they like you.

You have plenty of time. Just get recs for each house. Google the local Panhellenic group in your area. Most have lists of alums who will write recs. Some want to see your resume, some want to meet you in person. Do it now. Give yourself the best chance at rush. Some chapters use a points system where recs count. Why lose points on something that is totally within your power to do?? That's just lazy. Recruitment is very competitive.

It's to risky to not get a rec. You will need them for majority of the houses
