thoughts on recruitment

by:

Well bid day is here so I thought I would share some anonymous thoughts about how I, and many of my group, saw the houses through recruitment.

I, like many pnm's, especially those coming from a good distance, stalk this site pretty regular before recruitment starts and of course we get a biased view of how the sororities are looked at.

I'm pretty average in that I come from a suburb of a large city, my family is not poor but not filthy rich either. I had decent grades, rec's for most houses, no legacy connections, I'm decent looking, I feel, but no pageant queen and I was involved in multiple organizations at school and church, these were MY impressions, in no order.

Pi Phi- They were about how GR has them, they were all beautiful and very nice, emphasized the spiritual opportunities, which I thought was nice and were overall a bit intimidating, the kind of group that you know has their choices before going in and they will get the ones they want, it effects your conversations because even though the girls are nice while talking to you, unless your already in you have no shot so it makes it awkward for most of the girls in the group, of course you put them in your top 8 anyways LOL.
Chi O- Really nice group. They had a good mix of girls and seemed interested in more than just what you looked like but what you could bring to their sorority, didn't like their outfits much and some awkward moments but most of the conversations went pretty well both nights I was there,(cont)

ZTA- This is a bit negative but I had no interest in them, they fit the GR stereotype, to me, pretty well. They were all gorgeous without the classiness of Pi Phi, whereas Pi Phi gave you the courtesy of a faked "real" conversation ZTA came off as, "we've got our list already but thanks for coming"
Kappa- Big surprise here, the girls seemed generally nice, I expected them to already have run my financials and seen that I was solidly middle class and thus blow me off but they didn't they were generally very nice and I even got asked back for the 2nd night, if I would have made pref with them I would def have given them some serious thought.
DG- They didn't recruit in their house, they did point it out and it looks nice but damn I'm sure their fees will reflect that and they came across as ZTA attitude without the looks, was not very interested.
APhi- They also matched the GR stereotype. They were pretty, nice, and didn't come across as to catty. I did ask about their academic opportunities and they immediately wanted to steer the conversation towards social aspects, something they are very keen to promote, basically if your a pretty party girl this is the place for you, much like they say here.
ADPI- BIGGEST surprise. I thought, after stalking this sight, that these would be the Omega Mu's from Revenge of the Nerds, big, awkward, and generally not a place to be, boy was I and my whole group, shocked! They were generally pretty girls, even the heavier ones, almost like (cont)

normal people, the friends you had in H.S. They came across as really genuine, interested in me as a person, great questions by the way, and generally a great group. They were honest, I asked them about academics and thy said that they were not where they wanted to be and is something they are working hard to emphasize, the honesty was nice and refreshing and seemed the least "fake" of the entire week def. did not have a problem putting them in top 8.
KD- Another solid group of girls, very diverse and made me feel they were interested in me. I, like many, wasn't a fan of their skirts but they came across as "normal" also a place where a girl with my background could fit in
KAT- These girls also did not recruit in their house. They were pretty but it was awkward for me. I think that GR was pretty accurate here also in that they all seemed to be upper-middle class girls driven to succeed types, I want to succeed in life but would never describe myself as an over-achiever and these girls all seemed to fit that mode.
AXO- This, again, was a GR stereo-type that I thought fit pretty well. I knew going in they had a rep as a fun loving, social group, without the Barbie doll looks of APHI and it was pretty accurate. Conversations were always smooth, they prepped for rush well, and rarely stalled or were awkward. They came across as pretty genuine and interested in how the individual would fit in to their sorority and not if they met a certain stereo-type themselves, overall a (cont)

I can't speak for other houses but I wanted to point out some things. First - of course they didn't recruit in their house. The rebuild is still being finished. As for the dues - no, it won't reflect that. They don't even break ground on a house before it is funded.

Side note: Idk, my feathers are a little ruffled. You seem to have the typical freshman attitude of thinking you know about what you don't know.

DG with a ZTA attitude? I did not see that one bit. They were also all beautiful. They get a lot of hate on here they don't deserve. They made the best out of their situation.

decent group, put them in top 8 also.
Tri Delt- I know GR catches some grief for being inaccurate but again the stereotype was pretty spot on. I entered the house and saw nothing but a sea of blondes. I got the feeling they were ZTA light in that, from conversations, they had their lists and knew they would get the girls they wanted but they did give you the courtesy of not being dismissive.

Well these were my thoughts and the thoughts shared during our group tent talk. Recruitment was very positive, it was as described filled with highs when you got invited back to your fav's and low's, when you didn't, but overall a great experience and I ended up somewhere I felt good about all week long and am looking forward to being a part of.

Just to address some of the comments you made about outfits, never judge a sorority during rush solely by their outfits. Just because they are wearing them, does not mean the whole chapter wants to be. The person in charge of recruitment for the year chooses the outfit, not the whole chapter.

Thank you Active!
I am in one of the chapters you pointed out for not liking their outfits. I did not even want to wear that outfit but I had to.

But I'm glad you had an overall good recruitment experience and I hope you find your home :)

Despite your middle class, suburban background, you seem a little snobby and full of yourself

I disagree. She was pretty balanced in her comments. She pointed out the good and bad as she saw it without being rude or disrespectful - unlike you.

Comment above- That was a little rude, every one is entitled to their own opinion.

I'm guessing you went KD or AXO being that you bashed every single other house

By: So
by: Haha

Nah she bashed KD too and didn't put them in her "top 8."

Probably like AXO or adpi

So you didn't like any house at all? Even the ones you thought were decent houses I bet would still be offended..
All houses have their flaws but Texas Tech greek is so strong and all great houses.
And I think it's a little off that 'someone' commented so quick to agree with you in less time than it would take to actually read what you wrote.. hm..

by: Seriously

I think every house would be offended reading this besides ADPi.....

You added a sly insult into every description. Also, you were literally just a PNM and will continue to be a PNM until you are initiated. You met every house at least once. And when I say house, I mean like two girls.

So you really don't have much of a say to judge the sororities on campus because you don't even know them and you know nothing about tech. stupid freshman

Not entirely true. Girl in my hall withdrew during the week and went home. She and members of her family posted on Instagram and Facebook that Kappa called and offered her a bid. Hours before the bus. On paper they added her after bids but our hall knew she got called back to town before we got our bids. And she was a drop out
