time
by: pnmI am rushing this fall, and I am actually really excited about everything having to do with sororities. My main concern is the amount of time taken up by sorority events. I am majoring in Chemical Engineering (I swear I'm not one of those weird nerdy girls) and I know I will need time to study. I just want an idea of how much time being in a sorority will take so I could maybe work around it.

You're gonna get out what you put in. If you're a freshman you won't even have engineering classes the first year, so you won't have to worry about it. That's usually the year girls are most active. It's really not that time consuming. You have chapter once a week and then mando events throughout the year. People have hard majors and work and still are in sororities. Its not that hard

I'm a Chem E major and I joined a sorority this last year. It's really not that bad at all, you just have to remember to prioritize your time and stay focused. For me, that meant I could spend time with my sisters and do all the events we had in the sorority, but I usually didn't have time to do extra things like go out (although ocassionally I did find the time). I also joined a few other organizations which ended up being more time consuming than my sorority and I made it out fine. Just remember we are all here to go to school. Don't forget that and you'll be fine.

I am also a Chem E in a sorority. I think it's good to join a sorority as an engineering major to make it easier to make some girl friends since most engineering majors are boys. I'm friends with Chem E majors in DG, ADPi, APhi, ZTA, and Theta (I'm sure there are more, but those are the only ones I know personally). They'll all tell you the same thing. If you want to get something out of your sorority and school, then that's what you have to put your time into. It is definitely possible. Very few sorority girls are engineers, but they are out there and from experience, it is SUPER helpful to join a sorority that has other people in your major. They help keep you on track. Best of luck!
