rec letters

by: PNM

Hi I'm an incoming freshman this fall and I was wondering do you have to have rec letters for rush? I've talked to some one that they said no. Does it give me an advantage over other girls who don't have recs?

If you look on the panhellenic page, like just google ttu panhellenic, it has a huge list of FAQ. You do not NEED recs. They aren't required. That's stated straight up by pan. They will help you though. Girls who have recs have an advantage over those who dont. A lot of the time if a chapter really likes you and you don't have a rec, they'll get an alumni whose in lbk to write you one that day. They really aren't hard to get, just email the alumni for each chapter here and tell them you need a rec. They do this all the time, it isn't a big deal.

Recs and letters of support are helpful. Some sororities have a "points" system that can keep you coming back in future rounds. If you can do it, why not? PNM's should make themselves the strongest candidates they can. Get good grades, be well-rounded, learn how to speak, dress appropriately and get those recs! Get them for ALL chapters and do not focus on 1 or 2 you THINK you belong in.

It's better if a personal connection can write the rec for you. Family, family friends, teachers. Ask around to find sorority women. If you cannot find a personal connection contact the Alumnae Panhellenic in your area. If after that you can't find a rec (unlikely) then and only then contact the chapters. An alumna can only write a rec for her organization (i.e. A Deltz Zeta can only write a rec for Delta Zeta, she can't write one for Kappa Kappa Gamma). Recs help, they never hurt. And you should have a rec for each house. Don't be a snob and turn down a rec for ABC cause they're weird losers and you'd never want to be an ABC. Alumnae will not look kindly upon that. Just be polite, and accept it. You never know what will happen in recruitment. And after your writers have mailed (in which case it is polite to provide addressed/stamped envelopes) or electronically submitted their recs, send them a thank you note or email.
