letters of rec
by: PnmCan someone please explain how recommendation letters work for sorority recruitment? I've heard that chapters will not even offer you a bid if you don't have a letter of rec for them. What if you don't have a person who was an alumnae of a sorority to write you one?

All this talk about sororoities being completely exclusive and stuff is all a joke, there is literally 200+ per sorority, by no means do they all know someone. If you do it is an automatic bid, and if you dont and your not a creepy slob you will get a bid trust me, A LOT of girls go inactive after their freshman year.

First off, there is no such thing as an automatic bid. DON'T think you're going to get in somewhere just because you're a legacy or you know someone. You'll get special consideration, but NOTHING is guaranteed. As for sororities being "exclusive", I think only have 200 girls out of the 15,000 something women that go to this university, and really even out of the 1,000 + that rush. I can't speak for other chapters, but in mine personally, if we really really want you and you don't have a rec, we will call up an alum that's in Lubbock and get her to write you one that day. You absolutely HAVE to have them in the fall to get a bid. The spring is a lot different, but during formal rush it's important. Also, as for "A LOT" of girls going inactive after their freshmen year, that's just not true lol. If anything it gets better the longer you're in it. Most of the girls who go inactive only do so because of personal issues or financial problems.

So do you have to have an recommendation from an alum of each individual sorority or can you have a general recommendation letter from an alum that can be sent to every sorority?
